Augustin helps Bobcats outlast Pistons
Basketball Betting Lines
04/10/2010 -
Charlotte, NC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - D.J. Augustin sank the go-ahead fade-away
jumper in the final two minutes, and Charlotte continued its push for a higher
playoff seed with a 99-95 win over Detroit.
The playoff-bound Bobcats can finish no worse than seventh in the Eastern
Conference and no better than sixth. They are currently 1 1/2 games behind
Miami for sixth place, but Charlotte has just two games left and the Heat
three. If the Bobcats tie the Heat at the end of the regular season, Charlotte
would get the No. 6 seed thanks to a 3-1 series win over Miami.
Larry Hughes ended with 18 points, and drained two clutch free throws in the
closing seconds for Charlotte. Stephen Jackson and Gerald Wallace each scored
14 for the Bobcats, who bounced back from Friday's 97-90 loss at Houston.
Jackson, the leading scorer for the Bobcats this season, missed that contest
due to a sore right hamstring.
Ben Gordon ended with 21 points and seven assists for the Pistons, who had a
three-game win streak snapped. Detroit, which was coming off a victory at
Miami on Friday, also received 14 points from Jason Maxiell, and 12 apiece
from Will Bynum and Charlie Villanueva.
Bynum sank two free throws to give the Pistons a 95-94 edge with 1:32 left,
but Augustin sank a shot from the right wing 21 seconds later. Augustin then
came up with a block of a Bynum jumper, but despite three offensive rebounds
on the trip, the Pistons came up empty.
Gordon missed a jumper, Villanueva was off the mark on a three-pointer, Gordon
missed again from long range, and following a 20-second timeout, Gordon
couldn't hit a jumper.
Wallace corralled the board, was fouled and sank 1-of-2 foul shots. Wallace
then altered Bynum's shot on a drive into the lane and Hughes made two free
throws with five seconds left.
Detroit held a 20-19 edge after one quarter, but Hughes and Jackson opened the
second with three-pointers, helping Charlotte race to a 32-24 advantage. The
home team held a 50-43 cushion at the half.
Charlotte was up as many as 11 in the third before settling for a 74-69 lead
going to the fourth, which was tight until the final horn.
Game Notes
The Pistons played without Richard Hamilton, Rodney Stuckey and Chris Wilcox,
as those three players were out with an array of injuries...The Bobcats have a
31-9 home record...The Bobcats have held their opponents under 100 points in
18 of their last 21 games.

MySportsbook.com favors Bears, Bengals, Chargers and Colts to remain perfect
LAS VEGAS , Sept. 28 - Two big match-ups of undefeated teams have fans salivating at the Week Four schedule in the NFL. The Chicago Bears stifling defense looks to provide a less than hospitable welcome to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night in a battle of two 3-0 teams in the NFC conference. In the AFC, the San Diego Chargers (2-0) head to Maryland to face the surprising Baltimore Ravens (3-0) as both try to keep pace atop the conference standings. Betting Lines makers at MySportsbook.com, online sportsbook and casino, have set the Bears as 3.5 point favorites while the Chargers are a 2.5 point bet.
Of the three remaining undefeated teams, only one, New Orleans, enters this week's game as an underdog. Despite an emotional and resounding win over Atlanta on Monday night, the Saints are a 7.5 point underdog against the struggling Carolina Panthers. Indianapolis looks to stay perfect when they face the New York Jets as a 9 point road favorite while the Cincinnati Bengals are a 6 point favorite at home to the New England Patriots.
Six teams enter the week still looking for their first win, with a seventh, Tampa Bay, on a bye week. The prospect of dropping another game would not bode well for a potential playoff run. Since 1990, just three teams -- the 1992 Chargers, 1995 Detroit Lions and 1998 Buffalo Bills -- have overcome losing their first three games of the season to earn a postseason berth. And only the Chargers managed to accomplish the feat after starting 0-4.

The 2009 AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds have been released and Denver Broncos' running back Knowshon Moreno has been made the opening favorite.
Bet NFL Sports Lines
Moreno was selected in the first round of April's NFL draft and is expected to carry the rushing load for the Broncos this season. And with Jay Cutler now in Chicago, Moreno might be expected to be Denver's entire offense.
Betting Lines from sports betting lines have made Moreno a 5/2 favorite to win this year's Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. Fellow running back Chris “Beanie” Wells (Arizona Cardinals) is right behind Moreno at 7/2, while Donald Brown (Indianapolis Colts) and receiver Michael Crabtree (San Francisco 49ers) are 5/1 to win. Quarterbacks Mark Sanchez (New York Jets) and Matthew Stafford (Detroit Lions) are 7/1 and 8/1, respectively.
A couple of players who present some value are Josh Freeman, Shonn Green and Darrius Heyward-Bey.
Freeman needs to beat out Byron Leftwich to become the starting quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but if he does, he has a lot or raw talent and could use the weapons around him (i.e. Kellen Winslow Jr. and Antonio Bryant) to be very successful in his first season.
Green enters a crowded backfield in New York, but considering both Thomas Jones and Leon Washington are unhappy about their contract situations and might holdout, the former Iowa product could become the Jets' primary back.
Everyone was shocked when Al Davis took Heyward-Bey with the eighth overall pick in April's draft, but the kid has a tremendous amount of talent and if quarterback JaMarcus Russell takes the next step this year, the former Maryland product could blossom. Plus, Heyward-Bey will be looking to prove the people wrong who said Oakland should have taken Michael Crabtree with the No. 8 pick.
And if you're looking for a deep sleeper, check out Pat White at 30/1. He enters the Miami Dolphins vaunted “Wild Cat” offense and could be a big time playmaker.
