Heat send Beasley to Minnesota for picks

Basketball Betting Lines

07/12/2010 - Miami, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Miami Heat made it official on Monday by shipping the No. 2 overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, Michael Beasley, to the Minnesota Timberwolves for a pair of second round draft picks.

The Timberwolves will receive a second rounder in 2011 and 2014. The Sun- Sentinel originally reported the move late Thursday, hours after superstar LeBron James made his decision to join fellow free agents Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in signing contracts with the Heat.

The trade was necessary to clear up cap space in order to sign the three superstars, which officially happened on Friday.

Miami now has only five players under contract for the 2010-11 season including "the big three" and guard Mario Chalmers. Earlier on Monday, the club re-signed unrestricted free agent Udonis Haslem, who according to the Miami Herald inked a five-year deal worth roughly $4 million per year.

Beasley, who last offseason spent time in the NBA's substance abuse program to address concerns over his mental state and drug abuse, was a highly-touted product coming out of Kansas State in 2008.

However, the 6-foot-10, 235-pound forward has put up pedestrian numbers thus far, averaging 14.3 points and 5.9 rebounds over 159 games for Miami.

"We felt Michael had two very good years in Miami," said Heat president Pat Riley. "We feel he will have a very productive career, and wish him nothing but the best as he moves on."

Kurt Warner to start, Matt Leinart to watch

Despite the debate that's swirling , Kurt Warner will remain the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, coach Dennis Green said today. The Arizona Cardinals are the +7 point underdog at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com for this Sunday's game.

Green's comment came in a statement released by the team following an ESPN report that Green decided that rookie Matt Leinart would replace Warner as starter for Sunday's game at Atlanta.

"Generally talking about the starting lineup is not something we do," Green told the AP. "However, given the speculation that was out there we want to make it clear. We're disappointed after last week, but we still expect to be a playoff football team and we fully expect Kurt Warner to be the quarterback that leads us. That has not changed."
