Streaking Jazz pay a visit to Clippers
Basketball Betting Lines
02/09/2010 -
(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The red-hot Utah Jazz shoot for their ninth consecutive win
on Wednesday in Los Angeles against a Clippers team that has been faltering
lately.
The Jazz finished a four-game homestand in perfect fashion on Saturday when
Deron Williams recorded 22 points and nine assists to lead a balanced Utah
attack in a 116-106 victory over the short-handed Nuggets in a Northwest
Division battle at EnergySolutions Arena.
Andrei Kirilenko scored 22 points as well, while Carlos Boozer returned from a
three-game absence (calf) to donate 19 points and 13 rebounds for the Jazz,
who moved to within two games of the division-leading Nuggets.
Paul Millsap and C.J. Miles each came off the bench to chip in 16 and 12
points, respectively, for the victors.
Ty Lawson ended with a game-high 25 points in a spot-start for Denver, which
was coming off a 126-113 win over the Lakers on Friday. Chauncey Billups had
39 points in that game but sprained his ankle, forcing him to join fellow All-
Star Carmelo Anthony on the bench Saturday.
"You look out there and see they don't have Billups, and they don't have
Carmelo Anthony, so we should've won real easily probably," Jazz coach Jerry
Sloan said. "But they beat us here with those two guys out the last time we
played them and that shows you how strong their team is. They've got a
terrific team. We got a little selfish, started just taking shots rather
than executing. We were all over the place. Once we executed, we at least had
a chance."
The Clips, meanwhile, lost for the sixth time in seven games on Saturday in
the head coaching debut for Kim Hughes, who replaced Mike Dunleavy on the
Clippers' bench after the former coach decided to focus on his role as general
manager of the team.
George Hill scored 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting in that one, as the San Antonio Spurs notched their 15th straight win over LA with a 98-81 win at
Staples Center.
Chris Kaman, who learned he will be heading to the All-Star game on Monday as
an injury replacement for Portland guard Brandon Roy, had 21 points to pace
the Clippers, who were coming off a 2-6 road trip.
Eric Gordon contributed 20 points as the only other Los Angeles player to
score in double-figures.
"It wasn't a whole lot of fun," Hughes said. "We turned the ball over too many
times. We're a work in progress. I liked our rebounding, but we missed a lot
of open shots."
Utah has dominated the Clips recently, winning 10 of its last 12 encounters in
the series, including a 111-98 win in Salt Lake City earlier this season.

Big 12 Conference betting odds
Work left to do: Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Kansas State
Texas joins Texas A&M and Kansas as locks after getting league win No. 11. Texas Tech greatly helped its own hopes and crippled OK State's with the two-point win Saturday. Is K-State the last reasonable hopeful? Could be an elimination match in Stillwater on Tuesday, at least for the Cowboys.
Work left to do:
Texas Tech [18-11 (7-7), RPI: 44, SOS: 12] A critical two-point win over OK State leaves the Red Raiders with Baylor and at Iowa State left. Get both and the Red Raiders likely are good to go. Get one and there could be some interesting comparisons with a K-State team that could finish two or three games "ahead" of them in the standings but doesn't have any of the quality wins Texas Tech has. Not a lot in nonconference play (against Arkansas in Little Rock being the best win, by far) to lean on.
Oklahoma State [18-9 (5-8), RPI: 50, SOS: 35] Still without a road win, the Cowboys now need to win two on the road just to get to .500 in conference play. It's hard to recall a team (OK, other than Clemson) falling so precipitously from lock status to almost certainly out of the NCAAs at this point. There are wins to be had in the last three, including a very big home game against K-State on Tuesday, but this team is reeling. Can you tell the pressure to win is getting to them with the way the final possession played out at Texas Tech? There are some good nonconference performances to lean on, specifically beating Missouri State and Syracuse on neutral floors and Pitt in OK City, but if the Pokes don't right this very, very soon, that won't be enough.
Kansas State [20-9 (9-5), RPI: 56, SOS: 96] It pays to be in the Big 12 North. The nine league wins are Colorado (twice), Missouri (twice), Iowa State (twice), Baylor, Nebraska and (a good one against) Texas. That helps explain the middling computer profile. The win over USC is nice, but the nonconference leaves a lot to be desired. The game at OK State in Stillwater on Tuesday is huge, as it could KO the Cowboys and leave K-State with a home date against Oklahoma with which to work.
